In summer 2018, I worked as a Botanical Research Assistant with the Missouri Department of Conservation on a long-term study of the impact of grazing and prescribed fire on tallgrass prairie plant community composition. From this experience, I gained a comfortability using dichotomous keys, conducting field work, operating ATVs, UTVs and GPS equipment to locate sampling sites. From summer 2017 through March 2020, I worked for the US Geological Survey as a Student Hydrologist. One of my duties was to travel the state to calibrate and repair rain gage equipment in order to assure accurate data collection. My main duty was to analyze surface water data from rivers and streams throughout the state using the software Aquarius. From this position, I gained a comfortability with independent field work and working in a professional environment. Throughout my college career, I served as a Peer Wellness Educator through the Miner Wellness department at S&T. I educated my peers on topics ranging from mental well being to developing healthy relationships. From this position, I gained a comfortability with public speaking, developing programming, mentoring my peers, and leading challenging conversations. |
